n8n is a workflow automation tool that can also run a Telegram bot. FlowCastle is a Telegram bot builder that can also call your systems. We built the same bot in both. Here is where each one is the right call, and why many teams should keep both.
Pick n8n if your work is mostly between systems, you want to self-host, or the Telegram part is a few alerts and buttons. Pick FlowCastle if the bot has to hold a conversation: several questions, menus with a Back button, a contact list and broadcasts, with no server to run. If you need both, build the bot in FlowCastle and call n8n from it.
n8n is built to connect apps and automate back-office work. A Telegram bot is one of many things it can do, and a simple one is quick to build. FlowCastle is built for the conversation itself: menus, questions that wait for an answer, a contact list, broadcasts, hosting. If your bot mostly talks to people, build it in FlowCastle. If your work is mostly between systems, keep it in n8n. Most teams that have both needs should use both: the bot in FlowCastle, the automations in n8n, one HTTP call between them.
The n8n facts on this page come from a bot we built on n8n 2.42.6 in October 2026 and from n8n's own docs and pricing page, checked the same month. The build is written up step by step in How to Build a Telegram Bot With n8n.
| Dimension | FlowCastle | n8n |
|---|---|---|
| Built for | Telegram bots that hold a conversation | Connecting apps and automating work between them |
| Menus and buttons | A message block with buttons | Telegram node plus a Switch; one node per screen |
| A question that waits for a typed answer | A "Wait for reply" setting on the message | You store the conversation state yourself; one question took 6 extra nodes in our build |
| Back button | A checkbox on the button | A separate branch with a second copy of the menu |
| Contacts, tags, broadcasts | Built in | Not built in; you keep chat IDs in your own table |
| AI chat memory | Reads up to the last 40 stored messages of the chat | Simple Memory is lost on restart; Postgres or Redis memory nodes for production |
| Testing while the bot is live | A test chat in the editor | One webhook per bot, so the test and the live workflow cannot both receive messages |
| Hosting | Managed, included | n8n Cloud, or self-hosted on your own server |
| Integrations | HTTP requests, incoming webhooks, code steps and a module catalog | More than 2,000 integrations listed on its site |
| Custom code | TypeScript step inside the flow | Code node in JavaScript or Python |
| Price to start | Free: 2,000 messages and taps a month. Paid from $9 | Self-hosted: no licence fee, you pay for the server. Cloud: €20 a month billed annually for 2,500 executions |
Both tools count every incoming message and every button tap. n8n calls it an execution, FlowCastle calls it an automation event. In FlowCastle, AI answers also use credits, and 100 a month are included.
n8n is a strong tool, and for a lot of work it is the right one:

$json.callback_query.data.This is the setup we would pick for a business that already has n8n.
The bot runs in FlowCastle and holds the conversation. When it has something worth sending, such as a qualified lead, a booking or an order, an External Request step posts it to a Webhook node in n8n. From there n8n does what it is good at: adds the row to the CRM, notifies the team, creates the invoice. The n8n workflow no longer needs a Telegram trigger, a state table or keyboards, and it runs once per lead, not once per tap.
It works in the other direction too. A FlowCastle flow can start from an incoming webhook, so an n8n workflow can trigger it. Inside a flow, a code step can also call any API directly when a full n8n workflow would be too much.
Is FlowCastle a replacement for n8n? No. FlowCastle replaces the Telegram bot part of an n8n setup: the trigger, the menus, the conversation state and the contact list. It does not replace n8n's integrations or scheduled automations.
Can I connect FlowCastle to n8n? Yes. Add an External Request step in the flow and point it at the URL of an n8n Webhook node. Send the answers the bot collected as JSON. To go the other way, start a FlowCastle flow from a webhook and call that URL from n8n.
Is n8n free for Telegram bots? The self-hosted Community edition has no licence fee, but Telegram only delivers messages to an HTTPS address, so you need an always-on server, a domain and a certificate. On n8n Cloud the Starter plan was €20 a month billed annually with 2,500 executions when we checked in October 2026, and every message and button tap is one execution.
Which one is easier for an AI Telegram bot? For a private AI chat, n8n's AI Agent with a memory node works well and takes five nodes. For a customer-facing bot that mixes AI answers with menus, forms and a handoff to a person, FlowCastle is less work because those parts are already there. Our AI support bot guide shows that setup.
Does n8n have a Telegram bot template? Yes, n8n's template library includes Telegram workflows. We also share the two workflows from our test build as files in the n8n Telegram bot tutorial.
